Earl C. McFarlane, 90, of South Bend,
Ind., passed away at 5:10 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 24, 1906, in Somerset, Ky., he had lived in the South
Bend area most of his life.
On Sept. 29, 1928, in South Bend, he married
the former Irene Balint, who survives along with two
daughters, Carolyn Randt of Waxhaw, N.C. and Joyce Grossman
of Middlebury, Ind.; two sons, Michael L. of Eugene, Ore. and
James E. of Farwell, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; and 17
great-grandchildren. A sister, Ollie McFarlane, preceded him in
death.
Mr. McFarlane worked for the O'Brien Paint
Company for 44 years as a chemist. He was a member of the
Northwest United Methodist Church, a former member of the Masonic
Lodge 294 F&AM, and was involved in the Civil Air Patrol in
his earlier days. He was a former superintendent and Sunday
School teacher at Trinity United Methodist Church. He also served
as an usher at the University of Notre Dame under the late Knute
Rockne.
Friends may call in the Welsheimer Funeral
Home, 521 N. William St., one hour prior to the 2 p.m. funeral
service on Wednesday, with burial in the Riverview
Cemetery.Memorial contributions in Mr. McFarlane's memory may be
made to the church.
