SOUTH BEND — Phyllis A McElroy, 78, of Wedgewood Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an extended illness at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, in her residence.  Mrs. McElroy was born on April 30, 1924, in Adrian, Mich., and had lived in the Michiana area since 1952, coming from Adrian.

On Oct. 3, 1948, as Phyllis A. Fairbanks, she married Holden K. McElroy, who survives. She is also survived by a son, John R. McElroy of South Bend; and by a brother, Douglas Fairbanks of Clinton, Mich. Phyllis was a homemaker and deeply loved by her husband of 54 years and her son. She will be sadly missed by her family, numerous friends and the church family.

Their will be no visitation hours and no services for Mrs. McElroy. Entombment will take place at Riverview Mausoleum, South Bend. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to the Community Congregational Church, 19671 Cleveland Road, South Bend, IN 46637. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend, handled arrangements and services and extend deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the McElroy family.
