SOUTH BEND - Rev. Archibald M. McDowell, CSC, 89, died at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Holy Cross House, where he resided. Rev. McDowell served in the Mission Band of Holy Cross for 11 years in North Dartmouth, Mass., and taught in three Holy Cross schools, the University of Portland and St. Edward's University, Austin, Texas.
He also served in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with the Family Rosary movement. Rev. McDowell was born on April 17, 1905, in Lafayette, Ind. He made final vows in the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1930 and was ordained in June 1933.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Basilica, Notre Dame. Burial will follow in the community cemetery. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Monday in Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame, where a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
