A funeral mass for Rev. Thomas J.
McDonagh CSC, 70, who died early Wednesday morning in St.
Margaret’s Hospital, in Hammond, Ind. will be at Sacred
Heart Church, Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. Monday, with burial in Holy
Cross Community Cemetery on the campus. Friends may call after 4
p,m. Sunday in Moreau Seminary, where a wake service will be at
7:30 p.m.
He was born on July 8, 1915 in Hammond and made his first profession of vows in the Congregation of Holy Cross on Aug. 15, 1936. He studied at Notre Dame and Gregorian University in Rome. In 1951 he received a doctorate in economics from the University of Wisconsin. On June 24, 1943 he was ordained to the priesthood. Father McDonagh taught at the University of Portland and at the University of Notre Dame from 1951 to 1967. In 1968 he was named religious superior at Notre Dame, serving in that position until 1974. He the became a chaplain to St. Mary’s Convent and served in that position until the present.
