Lawrence E. McCray, 89, residing on
Fremont St., South Bend, Ind., passed away at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday,
Dec. 3, at St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, of natural
causes. Mr. McCray retired in 1972 from the Reliable Dairy in
South Bend after 20 years of service. He was also self-employed
as a chef and baker at McCray's Specialty Shoppe. Mr. McCray was
born on Feb. 24, 1907, in White County, Ind., to the late
Jonathon and Ella McCray. He had resided in this area since 1934,
coming from Reynolds, Ind.
He was married on Nov. 1, 1942, in South
Bend, to Elinor M. Maxson Moody, who preceded him in death
on April 29, 1996. He is survived by a son, Clifford McCray of
South Bend; one stepson, Rolland Moody of Fort Collins, Colo.;
and three grandchildren.
Mr. McCray was a member of the church, was a
World War II Army veteran, a member of South Bend Lodge 294,
F&AM, and was a Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star
Chapter 569.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m.
on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Epworth Memorial United Methodist
Church, South Bend. Rev. John Wagner, pastor of the church, will
officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park,
Granger, Ind. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on
Thursday, Dec. 5, at the Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home, 2528
Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, and one hour prior to services at the
church on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the
Epworth Memorial United Methodist Church.
