MISHAWAKA - Joseph James McCaffery Jr., 87, of Tanglewood Lane,
formerly of Wembly Drive, South Bend, died Thursday morning, Nov.
20, 2008, in the Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Joe
was executive vice-president of McCaffery Company, South Bend. He
was born December 31, 1920, in South Bend, to Joseph James and
Loretto (Poulin) McCaffery. He married Betty Ann Hedberg at Notre
Dame in 1946. She died in 1968. In July 1978 he married Patricia
Megan, who died February 17, 1994. Surviving are a son, Joseph
James McCaffery III of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Brooke
McCaffery of Chicago and Matthew McCaffery of Toledo, OH; two
great-grandchildren, Samuel and Alexander McCaffery; a brother,
James Robert McCaffery of South Bend; two sisters, Kathleen Ward
of Granger and Mary Patrice Robertson of Green Valley, AZ; along
with many wonderful nieces and nephews. Joe graduated from
Central Catholic High School, attended the University of Notre
Dame, and Indiana University where he was a member of Delta Tau
Delta Fraternity, served in the Army Air Force during World War
II from 1942-1945, loved his family and friends, volunteered at
Memorial Hospital for over 10 years, and enjoyed golf and fishing
at Diamond Lake. He was a former member of the Indiana Club,
Morris Park Country Club, South Bend Country Club and Elks Lodge
235, and had been a member of Christ the King Parish. Memorial
contributions may be made to Christ the King Parish or to the
charity of donor's choice. A memorial Mass will be held at 10
a.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, in Christ the King Catholic Church,
933 and Darden Roads, South Bend. The HICKEY Funeral Home &
Cremation Services, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend, is
assisting with arrangements. Joe was a very good and deeply
caring person. ...his memory lives on.

MISHAWAKA - Joseph J. McCaffery Jr., 87, died Thursday
morning in Cardinal Nursing Center. Survivors include a son,
Joseph J. McCaffery III of Houston; two grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen Ward of Granger
and Mary Robertson of Green Valley, AZ; and a brother,
James R. McCaffery of South Bend.
A private mass was held Thursday in Christ the King Catholic Church. A memorial mass and burial will take place at a later date. The Hickey funeral Homes is handling arrangements.
