Frances Isobel May

Frances Isobel (Phillips) May, 88, of Miami Circle, South Bend, died following a lengthy illness at 1:58 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2005, in Memorial Hospital. Mrs. May was born October 5, 1917, in LaPorte, Ind., to the late Henry G. and Edna (Vincent) Phillips, and had lived in South Bend since 1933, coming from LaPorte. On May 20, 1939, in South Bend, as Frances I. Phillips, she married Earl E. May, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Kathryn "Katie" Welser (John) of Hickory Corners, Mich.; one son, Douglas E. May (Jennifer) of Annapolis, Md.; four grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jennifer Welser, Shelly Kirkpatrick (Seth) and Matthew May (Christy); seven great-grandchildren, Matthew D. May, Mitchell Kirkpatrick, Kayla May, Sydney and Zachary Kirkpatrick, and Alyssa and Chloe May; and one sister, Mildred Roule of LaPorte. Fran was a member of the Schulyer Colfax Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, AT chapter of the PEO Sisterhood, Theta Gamma Chapter of Psi Iota Xi Sorority, and Sunnyside Presbyterian Church where she was a former elder and was a member of the choir and Presbyterian Women's Fellowship. She was also a member and past president of The Children's Dispensary and Camp Millhouse Boards of Directors. She was a graduate of the former South Bend Central High School, and was a 40-year member of the 100 Club dance club. Fran's life revolved around her family, community and church. Her contributions as a volunteer for more than 50 years touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 10, in Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 S. Francis St., with Rev. James Miller and Rev. Rebecca Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. The family will receive friends in the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Millhouse, 15600 Kelly Road, South Bend, IN 46619; or to Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 115 S. Francis St., South Bend IN 46617. Welsheimer's Family Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
