SOUTH BEND - Helen M. Maxwell, a lifelong South Bend
resident, passed away at 11:00 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2008, at
the Sanctuary at Holy Cross at the age of 91. She was born July
27, 1917, in South Bend, IN, the daughter of Elmer and Marie (Rhodes)
Miller. She had resided at Fairington Apartments for the
past 20 years. On February 18, 1937, in South Bend, as Helen
Miller, she was united in marriage to Noel Maxwell, who passed
away on October 7, 1970. She was also preceded in death by her
son, Noel William "Bill" Maxwell on November 16, 1991.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith (William) Bergen
of Belleville, IL, and Carol Lynn Feltman of South Bend.
Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Amanda Feltman, Susan Conn,
William Maxwell, Robert Maxwell, Matthew Bergen, Kara Bergen-Stegman
and Kristopher Bergen; and seven great-grandchildren. Two
sisters, Mary Jane Keeler and Virginia Byer, and a
brother, Donald (Nancy) Miller, all of South Bend, survive Helen
as well. Mrs. Maxwell worked as a waitress for many years at Hans
House Restaurant in South Bend, where she made many friends.
Private services and entombment will take
place today (Thursday), August 7, at Riverview Mausoleum. The
Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street,
South Bend, is assisting the Maxwell family with arrangements.
