Robert Charles "Bob" Maurer,
86, of Elkhart, Ind., passed away at 10 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24.
Bob was born in South Bend, I nd., on Feb.
4, 1915, and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area,
graduating from Riley High School in 1933. He is survived by a
brother, Richard of South Bend; a son, William of Alpharetta,
Ga.; three grandchildren, a grandson, Craig, a granddaughter,
Carrie of South Bend, and a grandson, Alexander of Alpharetta;
and by three great-grandsons, Jaymz of Detroit, Mich., and Bryce
and Jessie of South Bend. He was preceded in death by a son,
James Robert; and by a great-granddaughter, Jaymie.
He worked most of his life in the office
supplies industry including long engagements with Office
Engineers of South Bend and Stationer's of Elkhart. Bob enjoyed
retirement, including being an avid and active golfer until his
passing. He enjoyed his grandchildren, participated in many
charities, and was an animal lover. Bob was a World War II
veteran, and was awarded the Bronze Star and other medals for his
participation in the European theatre as a sergeant in the
military police.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today,
Sept. 26, in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home on the corner of
Ironwood and Jefferson, South Bend. A family funeral service will
be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in the funeral home.
Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of
flowers, the family asks that contributions in Bob's memory be
made to the American Cancer Society or to the United States
Humane Society.
