Louis S. Mattasits

Louis S. Mattasits, 80, of New Carlisle, died at 8:33 p.m. Monday in his residence. Mr. Mattasits was born on Sept. 8, 1916, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. He retired in 1981, after 10 years of service with A.M. General, and was previously employed for 27 years with the former Studebaker Corporation in South Bend.

 

On Feb. 22, 1941, in South Bend, he married Rosemary V. Vickery, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Cheri Ann Szilagyi of New Carlisle; a son, Robert Joseph Mattasits of New Carlisle; seven grandchildren, Christina Ostroski, Robert Louis Mattasits, Rachelle Mattasits, Stephen Mattasits, John Vernor, Margaret (Maggie) Vernor, and Matthew Vernor; a sister, Margaret Domnanovich of South Bend; and a brother, , Paul Mattasits of South Bend. A sister, Marie Kaser, and two brothers, Frank and Richard Mattasits, all preceded him in death.

 

Mr. Mattasits was a World War II Army veteran and a member of St. John Kanty Church and American Legion Post 297.

 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, in St. John Kanty Church, Rolling Prairie. Burial will follow in St. John Kanty Cemetery, where members of American Legion Post 297, will conduct military services. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., New Carlisle, where a combined parish rosary/wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
