SOUTH BEND - Mable Fern Matson, 88, of Miami Road, died at 6:32 p.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Mrs. Matson retired in 1972 from South Bend Community School Corp. as a teacher at Clay Middle School for over 28 years. She was born Sept. 10, 1907, in Marshall County.

On Aug. 1, 1936, in Marshall County, as Mable F. Pittman, she married H. David Matson. He survives with a son, David of Cedarville, Ohio; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was a member of Community Baptist Church, elected to Phi Beta Kappa Sorority, and was a graduate of Indiana University and Bob Jones University.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Friends may call one hour before services Thursday in the church. Forest G. Hay Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Children's Home, Kouts.
