SOUTH BEND - A wake service for Rev. Raymond A. Massart, CSC, 90, of Holy Cross House, Notre Dame, who died at 5:47 p.m. Friday in the residence, will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Moreau Seminary. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Basilica, Notre Dame. Burial will be in the community cemetery. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Rev. Massart's ministry in Holy Cross began in the Bengal Missions from 1931 to 1947, and from 1952 to 1959. From 1959 to 1963, he was assistant superior of the Foreign Missions Seminary, Washington, D.C.
He assisted in the South Bend parishes of St. Joseph and St. Mary's and was pastor of St. Pius X parish, Granger, from 1963 to 1967. From 1967 to 1972, he was on mission in Uganda, East Africa, and then assisted at St. Bernard's parish, Watertown, Wis., until 1985, when he retired to Holy Cross House, Notre Dame. Rev. Massart was born Dec. 10, 1903, in Merrill, Wis., and made his final vows in the Congregation of the Holy Cross in 1926. He was ordained to the priesthood at Notre Dame in 1931.
