SOUTH BEND - Joseph Martino, 85, an 80-year resident of
South Bend, died in his daughter's home in Carson City, Nevada.
He was born in South Bend on November 24, 1922, to Frank and Mary
Martino. Joe was a high school football all-star in the 1930s. He
served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the Pacific
Theater. Upon return from war he joined the U.S. Post Office in
South Bend and gave faithful service as a letter carrier for 31
years. On November 10, 1946, he married the former Eddath Marie Dyas,
who preceded him in death. An avid body builder, Joe also loved
golf, bowling, billiards and Notre Dame football. He is survived
by his daughter, Carla Jo Martino of Carson City, Nevada, and
stepdaughters, Janet Pustay of Palm Springs, California,
and Joan Tyler of Reno, Nevada.
