SOUTH BEND - Catherine E. (Goepfrich) Martin, 95, of The Milton Home in South Bend, Indiana, passed away Friday, August 8, 2008, in Hospice House, South Bend. Catherine was born September, 24, 1912, in South Bend, Indiana, to John and Elizabeth (Therringer) Goepfrich. She was a homemaker. On June 24, 1936, Catherine married Edmund W. Mnichowski Martin, who preceded her in death on December 27, 1988. Surviving are her daughter, Mary (Peter) Bencsics of South Bend, Indiana; a son, John (Marie) Martin of Odessa, Texas; grandchildren, Steve and Joel Bencsics; and great-grandchildren, Andrew, Adam and Alec Bencsics. A son, David Martin, and her sister, Mary Klosinski, also preceded her in death. Catherine was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, the D.F.V. German Club, Holy Cross Altar and Rosary Society and the USA Spa. She went to St. Mary's school, was a wonderful cook, loved to garden, tend to her flowers, loved music, and liked to sing and dance. She never met a stranger and loved to talk. At the age of 52 she learned to ride a bike which she enjoyed very much since she never drove a car.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the Mass in the church. Cremation has taken place. The family wishes to thank everyone at Hospice House and the nurses at Memorial Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care.
