James E. Marshall

James E. Marshall, 87, of Mishawaka Road, Elkhart, Ind., passed away on Tuesday, April 25, in Elkhart. He was born on Aug. 15, 1912, in Culver, Ind., to Ray and Lottie (Hawkins) Marshall.

On May 4, 1935, in New Ross, Ind., he married the former Martha Sissel, who preceded him in death in 1999. Mr. Marshall graduated from Ball State University in 1959 and received his master's in 1967. He was a teacher in the South Bend School Corporation. He was a member of the St. Joseph County Retired Teacher's Association and of the Indiana Retired Teacher's Association.

He is survived by a daughter, Jane Ann (Donald) England of Elkhart; two brothers, Thomas Marshall of Washington, Ind., and Allen Marshall of Indianapolis, Ind.; and by four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 28, in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time on Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of James Marshall to the First Presbyterian Church, South Bend, Ind.
