SOUTH BEND - Betty J. Mitschelen Marshall, 69, residing in
South Bend, passed away peacefully at 9:19 p.m. Saturday, March
8, 2008, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend,
with her family and pastor by her side. She was born June 1,
1938, in Nappanee, IN, to Jacob H. and Elsie Evelyn (Spicher)
Mitschelen. She was a graduate of John Adams High School.
She was employed with the Social Security Administration in
Chicago and California, retiring in 1990. Upon her retirement she
returned to South Bend.
While in California, as Betty J. Mitschelen,
she was united in marriage to Eldridge Marshall, who preceded her
in death. She was also preceded by her father, Jacob, on May 31,
1976; her brother, Laurel I., on October 29, 1988; and by her
mother, Elsie Evelyn, on February 3, 1997. She is survived by two
sisters, Mary (Ken) Woodcox of Nappanee, IN, and Janice
(Joseph) Hastings of South Bend, six nieces and nephews,
many great-nieces and nephews, and cousins. Betty was an active
member of South Side Church of God where she served as a Sunday
school teacher, sang in the choir, was a member of the Speeder's,
and Women of the Church of God. Betty loved the Lord, and had a
servant's heart. She enjoyed helping others any time an occasion
was presented to her. She enjoyed caring for the elderly with
in-home care services.
A service celebrating the life of Betty
Mitschelen-Marshall will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 12th,
in South Side Church of God, 7351 U.S. 31 South, South Bend. Rev.
Randy Kerr and Rev. Greg D. Crump will officiate. Graveside
services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens,
Osceola. The family will receive friends from noon until service
time Wednesday in the church. Contributions in memory of Mrs.
Marshall may be made to South Side Church of God.
