MISHAWAKA - Laura "Kreth" Marchant, 97, of Mishawaka,
passed away Friday afternoon, May 22, 2009, in the Golden Living
Center - Fountainview, Mishawaka. Kreth was born August 15,
1911, in Mishawaka, the daughter of the late Alfred and Laura
(Lawson) Armstrong. She grew up in Mishawaka and had
lived in the same house since the age of five. Kreth
married Harold R. Marchant on June 9, 1931. She was
a homemaker and was talented at needlework. Kreth enjoyed
her house plants and pets. She loved to ride
motorcycles. Kreth and her husband enjoyed
photography. They spent many summers at their cottage at
Magician Lake in Michigan where they enjoyed boating. Kreth
was a member of The Episcopal Cathedral of St. James in South
Bend. She loved learning and telling stories about her
family's history. Kreth's surviving family includes her
two sons, Harold "Hal" (Joyce) Marchant, Jr., of
Mishawaka and Alfred (Pat) Marchant of Edwardsburg; four
grandchildren, Randy (Jolene) Marchant, Jeffrey (Beth) Marchant,
Troy (Marcie) Marchant and Tracy (Scott) Konrath; and three
great-grandchildren, Spencer Marchant, Madison and Riley
Dowdy. Kreth was preceded in death by her husband, Harold
Marchant, Sr., and also by an infant brother. Friends may
spend time with Kreth's family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in
Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third
Street, Mishawaka. Services will be held Wednesday at 10
a.m. in The Episcopal Cathedral of St. James, 117 N. Lafayette
Blvd., South Bend, with the Rev. Dean Brian G. Grantz
officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley
Memorial Park, Granger. Contributions in Kreth's memory may
be made to The Episcopal Cathedral of St. James.
