Leon O. Marchand, 86, of Donald Street in
South Bend, passed away of natural causes at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday,
June 6, 2006, in Countryside Place Nursing Home. Leon was born
September 29, 1919, to Charles and Esel (Roby) Marchand in
Rensselaer, Indiana.
On February 3, 1945, Leon married Ms. Rosina
Rhodes. Rosina preceded him in death. Surviving are his brother,
Gene Lewis Marchand of Delphi, Indiana; and sisters, Violet
Shamass of Winamac, Indiana, and Bea Sheets of Rossville,
Indiana. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Leon in death were his brothers,
Fred, Russell, Don, Bob, Bill and James Marchand; and sisters,
Evelyn Kish and Ruth Ann Pass.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon
Friday, June 9, 2006, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776
McKinley Highway, Osceola, IN 46561. Services will be at noon in
the Chapel Hill Funeral Home, and interment will follow at Chapel
Hill Memorial Gardens, where military rites will be performed by
VFW Post #360 of Mishawaka. Contributions in his name may be made
to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, South Bend,
Indiana.
Leon was a veteran of WWII, and was
honorably discharged in 1946. He was employed at various
manufactured housing factories in Elkhart and Michigan prior to
his retirement.
