Before entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Sister Laurencita CSC gained her early education at St. Charles School and then St. Charles Commercial School, both in California. After entering Holy Cross, in 1928, Sister was trained to teach in elementary and secondary schools of the congregation. Because of her commercial training, she was assigned to saint Agnes's Hospital, Fresno as controller, 1944. In 1946 to1953, Sister was controller at Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City, UT. She returned to Saint Agnes Hospital, Fresno as assistant administrator, and in 1955 was named Executive Administrator of that hospital. In the meantime, she attended summer courses in Business Administration at Indiana University, and hospital administration courses, 1960, at Columbia University, New York City, NY. In 1966, she was named a fellow of American College of Hospital Administrators.
Sister was assistant administrator of St. Alphonsus Hospital, Boise, ID, 1961-1962, executive administrator at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, MD, 1962-1968, Executive Administrator, Saint Agnes Medical Center, Fresno, CA, 1968-1972, and held the same office 1972-1975 at Mount Carmel Medical Center, Columbus, OH. Her responsibilities changed in 1975 being assigned as Superior, Saint Catherine by the Sea, Ventura, CA. A new assignment took sister to Redwood City, CA, as Coordinator of St. Pius Senitos, St. Pius Parish. In 1992, Sister was again at Saint Catherine by the Sea, Ventura and in 2001 retired to Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, IN, where she was active in community affairs and a member of the Ministry of Prayer until her death. Reception of the body and wake will be at 4 p.m. Monday, October 2, in Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's Notre Dame, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, in church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's Notre Dame, IN. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
