Thekla M. (Vierneisal) Mahler, 94, of DeSoto, Mo., formerly of South Bend, Ind., died on Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998.
She was born on Nov. 27, 1904, in Lauda, Germany. Thekla Mahler was the wife of the late Fred Mahler who owned Fred's Grocery Store at Notre Dame and Sorin Street.
Thekla was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, and she and Fred belonged to the German Club in South Bend.
She is survived by a son, George Mahler of Wewahitehka, Fla.; three daughters, Elizabeth Keenan of Springfield, Va., Elsie Marcotte of Indianapolis, Ind., and Frieda Noeth of DeSoto, Mo.; and by 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hill and LaSalle Streets, South Bend.
Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the McGann Funeral Home, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Wake services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
