ELKHART - Julius C. "Speedy" Maenhout, 96,
formerly of Mishawaka, passed away at 3:00 a.m. on Monday, March
31, in Golden Living Center, Elkhart. Speedy was born on March
23, 1912, in Mishawaka, as the son of Leon and Irma (Scheitecatte)
Maenhout. He was preceded in death by his parents.
On January 20, 1940, in St. Bavo Catholic
Church, Mishawaka, he was joined in marriage with Elsie Van
Bruaene, who preceded him in death on December 3, 2005.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley (Craig) Deitchley of
Greenville, SC; a granddaughter, Jill (Scott) Parsons of
Greenville, SC; and two great-granddaughters, Abby and Kelsey Parsons.
Speedy worked on the Mishawaka Police
Department for 23 years and for the last 10 of those years he was
chief of detectives. He was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church,
Mishawaka, the BK Club, Police Retirees, and FOP Lodge #91 where
he was a past secretary and treasurer. Speedy was an avid golfer
with the West End Gang. He was a very devoted father and husband
to his wife, Elsie.
Funeral services will be in the Hahn Funeral
Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, on Wednesday, April 2, at
noon, with Rev. Jeffery Largent officiating. Family and friends
may visit one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow at
Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Memorial contributions may be made
in Speedy's name to St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street,
Mishawaka, IN 46544.
