Edward A. Madou, 81, of West 10th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away on Sunday, June 2, in Memorial Hospital of South Bend, Ind.
Edward was born on Feb. 7, 1921, in South Bend, as the son of the late Camiel and Alice (De Priest) Madou.
On Sept. 20, 1947, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, Edward married the former Ida J. Ferrettie. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ida. He was a dedicated and loving father to his four children: daughter, Kathy M. White of Mishawaka; and three sons, Kevin T. (Joni) Madou of Mishawaka, Steven E. (Debra) Madou of Osceola, Ind., and Ronald M. Madou of Mishawaka; seven wonderful grandchildren, Melissa, Renee, Nicole and Kristin Madou, Bryan, Brooke and Brandon White; three precious great-grandchildren, Mandisa, Jeffrey and Marissa; and by a sister, Margaret Van De Putte of Mishawaka.
Ed was a lifetime area resident. He retired from the Mishawaka Post Office as a clerk after 27 years of service in 1981, and was a devoted member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church. He was a softball coach and gym teacher at St. Bavo's School. He was a very active member of the B.K. Club, serving as vice president and was on the board of directors. He was the slow-pitch softball manager for the B.K. Club. His love for the game of baseball ran deep; he played an important role in the building of the Southwest Little League and was the manager of baseball at the Southwest League. Ed was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 360. He was also a retired usher for the University of Notre Dame.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, June 4, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West 8th Street, Mishawaka. Wake prayers will take place in the funeral home at 7 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Entombment will follow at Fairview Mausoleum. The V.F.W. Post 360 and American Legion Post 161 burial squad will perform military rites at the cemetery.
