SOUTH BEND – Elizabeth (Betty) Mackowiak, 76, of Johnson Street, died at 4:43pm Thursday in her home. Mrs. Mackowiak retired in 1979 from the housekeeping department of the University of Notre Dame.

She was born September 21, 1917, in South Bend and was a lifelong resident. On October 12, 1940, in South Bend, as Elizabeth Piechorowski, she married Aloysius J. Mackowiak. He survives with a daughter, Paulette Wilcox of Osceola; a son, Alan J. of Goshen; and five grandchildren.

She was a member of St Stanislaus Catholic Church, Harvest House, Goodwill Club and Apostleship of Prayer.

Services will be at 10am Tuesday in the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Gardens Mausoleum of St Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8pm Monday at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3402 Lincolnway West, where members of Harvest House and Apostleship of Prayer will join the parish in a rosary at 4pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St Joseph County.
