Brother Owen Lynch CSC, 76, a former
teacher at St. Joseph High School, died Sunday in Dujarie House
at Notre Dame after a six-week illness. He was born Joseph Lynch,
Aug. 6, 1893 in Kalamazoo. He made his first vows Jan. 6, 1916,
and his final vows Jan. 10, 1919. He received his undergraduate
degree from Notre Dame in 1924.
Brother Owen had been superior at various
high schools conducted by the Brothers of Holy Cross. He was a
teacher and principal at Central Catholic High School , Fort
Wayne, at various times; superior at Sacred Heart Postulate,
Watertown, Wis.; principal at Holy Cross High School, New
Orleans, La.; principal at Msgr. Coyle High School, Tauton, Mass.
He also taught at Holy Trinity High School, Chicago; Archbishop
Hoban High School, Akron, Ohio; Notre Dame High School, Sherman
Oaks, Calif.; and Notre Dame High School, West Haven, Conn. His
last assignment before retiring was at St. Joseph High School
here. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Thomas Welch, and a
niece, Mrs. John H. Daly, of Kalamazoo.
Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the
Holy Cross Brothers Center Chapel. Burial will be in St.
Joseph Cemetery, Notre Dame. Friends may call at Holy Cross
Brothers Center after 3:30 p.m. today.
