Sister M. Rose Agatha Lundergan Jan. 31, 1917 - June 6, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Sister M. Rose Agatha (Agatha Cecilia Lundergan),
91, was born in Montgomery, IN, to the late Matthew Lundergan and
Alice Doyle Lundergan. Sister is survived by her sisters, Sister
Aloysia, Saint Mary's, and Mary Margaret (Paul) Hopkins of
Loogootee IN; nieces, Mary Mirro, Teresa Lundergan and Catherine
Whitlow, all of Indiana, Joan Kavanaugh and Linda Morenz, both of
Arizona, and Barbara (Bob) Russert of California; nephews, Steven
Lundergan, Pat, Ed, Larry, Frank and Mike Hopkins, all of
Indiana, and James Hopkins of Arizona; cousins, Rev. Barnabas
Lundergan, OSB, of Illinois, June Ann Jorgenson, Bernard and
Katie Doyle of Indiana. Sister's many friends will miss her.
Before entering the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Sister was a
student. After entry into the Congregation of the Sisters of the
Holy Cross, she was trained to teach and taught in elementary
schools in Illinois and Indiana for 32 years. She gained her
bachelor of science degree from Saint Mary's College and her
master of arts degree from University of Notre Dame, both at
Notre Dame, IN. She was receptionist at Moreau Seminary, a
volunteer at Saint Joseph's Medical Center, did parish ministry
at St. Paul's Parish, was a librarian at Life Stages and a
volunteer at St. Joseph's Adult Day services. Sister retired to
Saint Mary's where she was active in the Ministry of Prayer until
her death. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of
the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre
Dame, IN 46556. Reception of the Body and wake service will be
Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. in the Church of Our Lady of
Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. Funeral service will be
Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in Church of Our Lady of
Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. Kaniewski Funeral Home is
handling arrangements.
