SOUTH BEND - Jessie J. Love, 70, of
309 S. Iowa St., died at 6:45 a.m. Thursday in St. Joseph's
Medical Center. Mr. Love retired from the rubbish removal
business, where he was self-employed, retired from New Energy of
Indiana in 1992 and also retired from the Torrington Co. He was
born Nov. 1, 1924, in Hughes, Ark., and lived in South Bend since
1946.
On June 17, 1956, in South Bend, he married
Mary Newburn-Smith. She survives with a daughter,
Aminah Yahva of Grand Rapids; two stepdaughters, Sherry F.
Smith-Wagner of Arlington, Texas, and Jacquelene B. Smith-Middlebrook
of Milwaukee; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three
sisters, Everlena Thomas of South Bend and Gloria Hunt
and Janice Love, both of Grand Rapids; and a brother,
Louis C. of South Bend. He served on the Deacon Board, was
superintendent of the Primary School, supervisor for Junior
Ushers and instructor for Senior Ushers, all of Greater St. John
Missionary Baptist Church, and was a member of Protestant Church
Bowling League, Monday Night Bowling League, Tuesday Night Church
Bowling League, and was a veteran of World War II.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday
in the church. Cremation will take place. Clark's Funeral Chapel
is in charge of arrangements.
