SOUTH BEND - Donald H. Lord Jr., 71, of 824 Manchester Drive, died at 7 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital after an illness.

Mr. Lord retired in 1978 after 34 years with the U.S. Post Office and also worked as custodian for 13 years for Redeemer Lutheran Church.

He was born Dec. 2, 1922, in South Bend, and was a lifelong resident.

On April 13, 1946, in Chicago, he married LaFerne Gollnick. She survives with two daughters, Yolanda Blouin of West Peabody, Mass., and Patricia Brochin of Washington, Ind.; two sons, Donald H. III of Mishawaka and Richard C. of South Bend; seven grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice Jackson of Carmel, Ind., and Patricia Heckaman of South Bend.

He was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 303, Redeemer Lutheran Church, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and Diabetes Association of St. Joseph County. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the church.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road.
