Thomas John Logue

Sept. 29, 1917 - July 11, 2002

Thomas John Logue, 84, of Copperfield Dr. E., South Bend, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Thursday, July 11th, in his residence after an extended illness. Mr. Logue was born on September 29, 1917, in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

 

On January 29, 1949, he married the former Eleanor (Helen) McCullough Kitson, who survives along with two sons, Dr. K. Kitson (Julianne) Logue, DVM, South Bend, and Dr. Brian J. (Cathey) Logue, MD, Bloomington, Ind. Also surviving are three grandchildren whom he loved and cherished, Caitlin Elizabeth Logue, Bloomington, Ind., and Charles John Logue and Eleanor Ruth Logue, both of South Bend. John was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lena Logue; and a brother, Joseph Logue. His brother, Gunner Joseph Logue of the 21st Battery, 8H. Anti Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery, died at 19 years old in Dunkirk, France, and is buried in the British Cemetery in Enghien, Belgium. John Logue was an Engineer-Lieutenant in the British Royal Navy from 1940-1945, having served on ships near Russia, the middle and Far East and India as Chief Engineer. He was life member of the Masonic Mother Lodge of No. 0 Kilwinning, Scotland.  John will be sadly missed by family and numerous friends who he enjoyed at several local restaurants having coffee with.

He was a highly educated man, a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

 

Visitation hours were from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 13th, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, July 14th, at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home, with Dr. Rev. Jack Volkers officiating. Mr. Logue will be laid to rest in Ballykelly, Northern Ireland. The family request that NO FLOWERS be sent to the funeral home, and all memorial contributions be made to the St. Joseph County Humane Society, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545; or to the Hospice of St. Joseph County.
