John Robert LIVINGSTON
John Robert Livingston, 64, of South Bend and formerly of Terre Haute, died at
approximately 4 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 2005, from injuries sustained in an
automobile accident. He was born April 17, 1941, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He was
preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Kathleen Livingston; and his
beloved wife, Peggy Livingston. John received his bachelor of science degree in
1963 and juris doctor in 1965 from the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
While in law school, he owned and operated a Pasquales Pizza restaurant.
Following law school, John eventually specialized in corporate taxation and
worked in various positions with Rockwell International in Pittsburgh and Los
Angeles, Rhor Industries in San Diego and AM International in Chicago. John
moved to South Bend in 1989, where he served as the director of taxes and tax
counsel for Clark Equipment Co. He subsequently worked as the director of taxes
and tax counsel for Quality Dining in Mishawaka, and as a partner in the South
Bend law firm of Botkin and Hall, L.L.P. John and Peggy also were the proud
owners and operators of the Book Inn Bed and Breakfast, an AAA four-diamond
property. At the time of his death, John was serving as an assistant city
attorney for the city of South Bend. He was a parishioner at St. Patrick's
Catholic Church in South Bend, where he served on the Parish Finance and Long
Range Planning Committees. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus and the
Ancient Order of Hibernians in America. John loved aviation and obtained his
instrument rating as a private pilot. He loved to fly and was a member of the
Wings Flying Club in South Bend. John also was a member of the Indiana Bar
Association. Surviving are his son, John R. "Jack" Livingston Jr, and
his wife Julie of Annandale, Va.; son, William M. "Mac" Livingston of
Carpentersville, Ill.; daughter, Diane Livingston DWYRE and
husband Bill of Bethlehem, Pa.; son, Kevin B. Livingston and wife Libby of Lilburn,
Ga.; eight grandchildren, Billy, Maggie, John, Katie Rose, James, Andie, Sarah
Camille and Sarah Faith; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Visitation is 4
to 8 p.m. Friday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., in
Terre Haute. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick's
Catholic Church in Terre Haute. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park in
Terre Haute. A memorial mass for John will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St.
Patrick's Catholic Church in South Bend. Following the service, there will be a
reception for John's friends and family in the basement of St. Patrick's School
in South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to Tuition Assistance at St.
Patrick's Catholic Church in South Bend; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
