MISHAWAKA - Our loving father, George C. Lively, passed away
April 13th, 2009. He was born in Roby, Illinois October 22, 1919.
He is survived by two daughters, Catharine Pollachek (Donald), of
Osceola and Mary J. Pierce of Mishawaka. He had five
grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Sherri Greene (Derek)
and their five children of Shelby, N.C., David (Cristina) and
their three children of Danville, CA, Jeffery (Christina) and
their two children, of Overland Park, KS, Molly Chizum (Brandon)
and their daughter, of Greenwood, IN and Christina Pierce of
Mishawaka. Also, one brother, Ernest Lively of Mishawaka. He was
preceded in death by his wife, Verna Mary and a son Kenneth A.
(Joan) of Overland Park, KS, his parents Ernest and Anna
(Highland) of Roby, IL, and his siblings, Zetta Mary, Raymond
Clinton, Burchard Clay, Roy Hadden, Ida Lee, Mary Elizabeth,
Charles William, James Wesley, and Anna Dale. During his
lifetime, he was a scout leader, a member of White Shrine of
Jerusalem, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 2, St. Joseph Lodge #45,
F. & A.M; and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South
Bend. He was a member of Osceola United Methodist Church. He also
served in the Army during WWII, retired from the Navy Seabee
Reserves as a chief petty officer. Our father was happiest when
he spent the summers at the family cottage in South River,
Ontario, Canada. All of his immediate family enjoyed the
vacations and have many wonderful memories. He loved playing
cards and belonged to a bridge club for over 50 years. He was an
avid reader of westerns and had a love of cats, particularly,
Tigger. He was employed by Studebaker for 20 years, worked at
Richardson Mobile Homes and Cobra in Elkhart. He retired from
Creekside Apartments in Mishawaka as the maintenance supervisor.
We will miss our dad and know he is with his wife, Verna, to whom
he was married 63 years. He had a full and rich 89 years. There
will be a Memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 2009
at Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South
Bend. Military graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM
Monday, April 20th at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 26543 Edison Road,
South Bend. Any memorial contributions can be made to the
Studebaker Museum, 201 S. Chapin, South Bend, IN 46601 or to the American
Cancer Society , 601 W. Edison Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545 in
