Mrs. Mary Lisek, Aged 103, Dies at Her Home
City's Oldest Resident Succumbs to Long Illness
Mrs. Mary Lisek, aged 103, probably the oldest person in northern Indiana, and the oldest in South Bend, died yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock at her home at 1215 W. Thomas Street. Mrs. Lisek had been ill for over three years, old age having caused paralysis. Mrs. Lisek was born in Germany on March 24, 1809. At the age of 78 she came to South Bend, where she had since resided.
Mrs. Lisek was the mother of two children, both of whom are dead (Sic - she had two children living, the rest were dead). Eighteen grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren survive. The funeral will be held from St. Hedwige's Roman Catholic church at 9 o'clock Monday, Rev. Valentine Czyzewski, C. S. C., officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Polish cemetery. Friends may view the body at the residence any time to-morrow.
When Mrs. Lisek celebrated her 100th birthday anniversary, she was in excellent health, considering her great age. To her simple habits of life she attributed her passing of the century mark. Shortly after, she was stricken with the illness which, after three year's duration, resulted fatally.
