Wayne Linson, 80, of West 16th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away in Hospice House, South Bend, Ind., after a five-year battle with renal failure.
Wayne was born on Nov. 18, 1923, in Howard County, Ind., as the son of David and Dorothy (Lineback) Linson.
On Nov. 24, 1945, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, he married the former Annette L. Maggioli. Wayne is survived by his wife, Annette of Mishawaka; a daughter, Marlene (David) Scheetz Brown of Indianapolis, Ind.; three sons, Brian (Merna) of Mishawaka, Curt (Nancy) of Elmhurst, Ill., and Bruce of Montgomery, Ala.; four grandchildren, Brian Linson II, Stephanie Pinder, Thomas Scheetz II and Melissa Scheetz; two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Pinder and Emily Pinder; and by a sister, Delores Artusi of Mishawaka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Dorothy, and by a brother, Robert.
Wayne was a longtime area resident; he was a fireman for the Mishawaka Fire Department for 23 years before he retired in 1968 and worked for Ziolowski Construction Co. as a cement mason for many years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, VFW Post 360, American Legion Post 161, a member of Retired Fireman Association, Mason and Concrete Finishers Union #101 and the Mishawaka Alumni Association. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving his country proudly during World War II as a staff sergeant with Company D 309th Infantry, where he was wounded in combat and was awarded the Purple Heart. He also earned a Good Conduct Ribbon and a European-African-Middle-Eastern Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars.
Wayne loved spending his spare time golfing, traveling, gardening or cooking, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend who will truly be missed but will never be forgotten.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Mill Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Robert Yast officiating on Monday, July 26, at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum, Mishawaka. Friends may call in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St., Mishawaka, today, July 25, from 2 to 7 p.m., where a Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Wayne may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill St., Mishawaka, IN 46544; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
The family would like to give their sincere Thanks to the nurses and the hospital staff on the 4th floor at Saint Joseph Regional Hospital, South Bend, the staff at Edison Lakes Nephrology, Inc., and the staff at Hospice House of St. Joseph County for all of their care and kindness during this most difficult time.
