SOUTH BEND - Chester B. Lindorf, 86, of South Bend, passed
away on Friday, May 18, in The Milton House, South Bend. Chester
was born on September 5, 1920, in South Bend, to the late Vincent
Sr. and Helen (Szelagawska) Lindorf. He was also preceded
in death by four brothers, John, Edwin, Casmir and Vincent Jr.;
and by a sister, Estelle Wheeler.
In 1948 he married Stephanie Baczkiewicz; they were married for 38 years. He is survived by his children, Lillian (Michael) Spice of Mishawaka, Eugene Lindorf of South Bend, James Lindorf of Edwardsburg, MI, and Karl (Nancy) Lindorf of Niles, MI; five grandchildren, Keaton and Chelsea Lindorfsowinski of Mishawaka, Jesse and Joshua Lindorf of SC, and Emilyna Cullen of New York City, NY; a sister, Jane Schultz of Long Island, NY; and his brother, Eugene Lindorf of South Bend.
Chester served in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He owned two businesses, Chester's Salvage in Edwardsburg and Lindorf Bakery in South Bend and Mishawaka. He was a member of St. Pius X, Granger, and Our Lady of the Lakes, Waterford, MI. He loved to play the harmonica and sing; Chester had a beautiful voice. He had a vast appreciation of nature, and was a knowledgeable man with uplifting words. His devotion and faith sustained him in troubled times. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2007, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, were a Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 24, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Pius X, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN 46530, where friends and family may call an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
