SOUTH BEND - Marjorie Jane Lieser, 88, of South Bend, IN passed away at 4:55 pm on Monday March 15, 2010 in her home. She was born April 21, 1921 during the "roaring twenties" on Baxterly Ave in Lakewood, OH to Harry A. and Pearl Etta (Mitchell) Sutton, who were a painter and a school teacher originally from Mahaffey and Cherry Tree, Penn, farm country in the Susquehanna Valley. On May 29, 1943 in Cleveland, OH she married Thomas Vernon Lieser, who preceded her in death on January 25, 2001. Mrs. Lieser is survived by seven children, Jean (James) Shaw of South Bend, IN, Charles (Carol) Lieser of Arlington, TX, Marian (Tom) Uebbing of South Bend, IN, Elaine (Carl) Fechko of Strongsville, OH, Dr Tom (Kathy) Lieser of Whitehouse, OH, Barbara (Rob) Sturgeon of Sunnyvale, CA, and James Lieser of Rocky River, OH, twenty-seven grandchildren; Brian Shaw, Fr David Shaw, Kathy Winter, Tim Shaw, Marjorie (Maggie) Lieser, Dr Gregory Lieser, Katie Lieser, Laura Lieser, David Uebbing, Dr Claire Uebbing, Michael Uebbing, Josh Uebbing, Monica Uebbing, John Uebbing, Carl Vernon Fechko, Jacob Fechko, Bernadette Fechko, Michael Fechko, Tom Lieser, Matt Lieser NSJ, Gina Lieser, Joey Lieser, Nick Sturgeon, Madeline Sturgeon, Alexandra Sturgeon, Lizzy Sturgeon and Martin Lieser. three great grandchildren Aidan Shaw, Wyatt Winter and Molly Fechko, three sisters, Virginia Thorp, Janet Doerr and Pat Smith and 17 nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lieser was a 1939 graduate of Lakewood High in Ohio and was the best mother and grandmother anyone could have. She met her husband Vern during World War II while he served in the Navy. Vern and Marge loved to travel, camp and seek out adventures with family and friends. Her father Harry A Sutton and husband Vern were partners and founders of Sutton Industrial Hardware at 3838 Prospect Ave in Cleveland, Ohio. Marge always had a vegetable garden in her yard where she loved to raise tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, radishes, green beans, cucumbers, squash and of course always had rhubarb in the spring. The loving care of her garden was only outdone by the love for her family and children. She was devoted to saying the rosary and loved to watch the Mass on EWTN. Marge was a violinist in high school and the Cleveland Women's Orchestra, and had an interest in fashion and the arts. She was an excellent cook and family dinners were always an event of the first order, with guests often present. The family will receive friends from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday March 17 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN, 46614. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Lakeville). The family will also receive friends at the Busch Funeral Home, 21369 Center Ridge Road, Fairview Park, OH from 7 to 9 pm on Thursday, March 18th. Burial will take place on Friday, March 19th in Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmstead, OH at 10 am. The Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, South Bend is handling the arrangements.
