Stephen J. Lichkai, 79, formerly of N. Sheridan Ave., South Bend, IN, died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital. He was born July 31, 1921, in South Bend, and was the son of John and Catherine (Varga) Lichkai. Mr. Lichkai retired in 1983 from South Bend Screw Products.

On February 3, 1945, in South Bend, he married Theresa E. Hadary, who preceded him in death on March 24, 2000. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Al and John Lichkai; and a sister, Mary Johnson. He is survived by a daughter, Beverly (James) Berkshire of Elkhart, IN; one grandchild, Scott (Kay) Scoville of Indianapolis, IN; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Stephen and Nicholas Scoville of Indianapolis, IN; three step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Barren of South Bend, IN.

There will be no visitation. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at St. Stephen Catholic Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Mr. Lichkai was a member of the William Penn Club, Notre Dame Ushers Club and St. Stephen Ushers Club. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen Catholic Church, 1102 W. Thomas St., South Bend, IN 46601. ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., is handling arrangements.
