Robert E. B. Leyba, 81, of Granger,
Ind., passed away of natural causes on Saturday, Aug. 7, in
Marion General Hospital, Marion, Ind. He was born Sept. 3, 1922,
in Anton Chico, N.M., to the late Benedict and Sarafina (Baca)
Leyba. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Ernest and
Benedict Leyba.
Left to cherish his memory are his children:
daughters, Linda Bjoraas of Mishawaka, Ind., and Lisa
Leyba of South Bend, Ind.; and sons, Daniel S. (Allyson) Leyba,
David Leyba of South Bend and Robert H. Leyba of Granger;
grandchildren, Daryl Bjoraas, April Bradley (Jim Coder),
Angel Brown of South Bend, Nicholas and Brendan Leyba of
South Bend, Gabrielle, Kathryn and Beaumont Leyba of Granger;
great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Kierra, Dylan and Gage; and a
sister, Bernice Cook (Raymond) of Elkhart, Ind.
Mr. Leyba retired as a foreman in the Brake
and Steering Division of Bendix Corp. He proudly served in the
USMC 4th Marine Division and participated in action in the
Marshall Islands on Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. During his tour
he received three Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. Mr. Leyba
belonged to VFW Post 9820, DAV, American Legion, South Bend Moose
Lodge #58, and formerly the Elkhart Elks Lodge.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m.
Wednesday, Aug. 11, in the Welsheimer North Funeral Home, 17033
Cleveland Road, South Bend, where friends may call from 2 to 4
and 6 to 8 p.m. today.
Memorial contributions may be made to the
American Heart Association or to the Diabetes Association.
