Augustus P. Lewis

February 23, 1880 – November 1, 1954

Augustus P. Lewis, 432 S 26^th St., died at 7:30am today in his home after a heart attack.  He was born in Greenville SC, February 23, 1880, and came here a year ago from Rockford IL.  He was retired sales and transportation manager for the Central Illinois Electric & Gas Co, of Rockford and was chairman of its board of directors. 

He married Alpha Baker 38 years ago in Amhurst OH, who survives.  He also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Richard Hosea, South Bend; a son, Robert P., of Rockford; four grandchildren; two brothers, James P. of Kansas City MO and Alex P of Statenville GA.  He was a member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks in Rockford and the American Institute of Engineers.  He was graduated in 1900 from Clemson College, SC, where he played football from 1897 to 1900.  The body is in the Hollis Funeral Home.
