Robert W. Lerner, Sr.

Robert W. Lerner, Sr., 72, of
Partridge Woods Drive, Granger, Ind., passed away after an
illness at 11:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, at the Ironwood
Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, Ind. Robert was
born in Elkhart, Ind., on March 19, 1926, and returned to this
area in 1991, coming from Iowa. Robert retired in 1984 from the
Stauffer Chemical Company, Westport, Conn., and from the Solvoy
Chemical Company, Charles City, Iowa, in 1989. Robert was a
graduate of Colorado State University with a B.A. and a Master's
degree in chemistry. He was an associate member of the University
of Notre Dame Chapter of Sigma XI, Scientific Research Society, a
45-year member of the American Chemical Society, and belonged to
the Elkhart Kiwanis Club, Elkhart Conservation Club and the First
United Methodist Church, Mishawaka, Ind. He was a World War II
Army Air Corps veteran.
On May 15, 1948, in Mishawaka, Robert
married Colleen Davis, who survives. He is also survived
by two sons, Dr. Robert W. Lerner, Jr., of Berkley, Mich., and
Kenton D. Lerner of Macomb, Ill.; a grandchild and three
step-grandchildren; a brother, Ronald E. Lerner of Niles, Mich.;
a sister, Charlene Abraham of Indianapolis, Ind.; a
stepbrother, Dr. John Helfrich of Sugar Land, Texas; a
stepsister, Marsha Watson of Elkhart; and by his father,
Walter Lerner, and his stepmother, Jane of Elkhart.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at
the First United Methodist Church, Mishawaka. Friends may call
from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N.
Main Street, Mishawaka, and one hour prior to services at the
church on Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Valley Memorial
Park, Granger. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson's
Foundation, 1501 N.W. 9th Avenue, Miami, FL 33136.
