SOUTH BEND - Charles R. Leonard, 76, of South Bend, passed away
on Monday, December 21, 2009, in his home, surrounded by his
family. He was born on July 21, 1933, in LaPorte, IN, to the late
Ralph and Lura (Conrick) Leonard. On June 5, 1953, he married
Susan Annis, who survives. Along with his loving wife of 56
years, he is survived by three daughters, Deb Leonard of Howell,
MI, Cathy (Don) Martin of Niles, MI, and Connie (Doug) Domine of
Traverse City, MI; his son, Scott (Nicole) Leonard of Granger,
IN; 10 grandchildren, Cristy Cochran, Donnie Martin, Matthew
Martin, Jason Domine, Brian Domine, Lauren Tucker, Jessica
Domine, Noelle Martin, Charlie and Cora Leonard; four
great-grandchildren, Landon, Leah and Lucas Martin and Aiden
(Cochran) McNerney; and by two sisters, Cora Crothers of Bremen,
IN, and Hazel Holmes of North Liberty, IN. He was preceded in
death by a grandson, Brandon Martin; a brother, John Leonard; and
by three sisters, Mary Leonard, Martha Young and Susan LeRoy.
Charles earned an accounting degree from Michigan College of
Commerce and retired in 1996 as the controller/general manager
for Hoffman Industries, Michigan Tube Division, Eau Claire, MI.
He was a member of Northwest United Methodist Church, South Bend,
where he was the chairperson of the Northwest Children's Learning
Center Board. He was also a former member of Trinity United
Methodist Church, Niles, MI. Charles was a United States Army
veteran. A memorial visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m.
Saturday, December 26, 2009, in the Northwest United Methodist
Church, 21855 Brick Road, South Bend, and from 1 to 2 p.m.
Sunday, December 27, 2009. Memorial services for Charles will
follow at 2 p.m. Sunday in the church. Kaniewski Funeral Homes,
South Bend, is handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions
