SOUTH BEND - Charles F. "Chick" Lenyo, 88,
passed away at 1:10 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2008, in his son's
residence in Plymouth, Indiana, surrounded by his loved ones.
Chick was born on February 6, 1920, in Mishawaka, to Michael and
Anna (Lastoka) Lenyo. He had been employed by the
Studebaker Corporation until its closing and retired from White
Farm Equipment where he was a general foreman. Mr. Lenyo was a
World War II Marine veteran, serving in Guadacanal with the VMF
124. He was a founding member of the 6th Engineer Battalion of
the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He retired from the
Marine Corps on February 29, 1976, as a master gunnery sergeant
and the sergeant major of his battalion. Chick was a member of
the D.F.V. German Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
On May 11, 1946, at Our Lady of Hungary
Church in South Bend, he married the former Elizabeth
"Bette" Odusch. She died on October 23, 1990. He
was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Smith
and Ann Tignor, and three brothers, Mike Lenyo, Andy Lenyo
and John Lenyo. Surviving are a daughter, Charlene Ann Lenyo-Hutti
(Tony) of Granger; a son, Charles Phillip (Mary) Lenyo of
Plymouth; nine grandchildren, Stephanie Lenyo, Linsey Lenyo, Tony
Lenyo, Grace Lenyo, Luke Lenyo, Cali Lenyo, Caleb Fairchild,
Ellie Fairchild and Moises Fairchild; and a great-grandson,
Carter Weaver. He is also survived by several nieces and
nephews. The family would like to thank Hospice of Marshall
County for their care and kindness. We would especially like to
thank his nurses, Terri and Alice, and his caregiver, Shirley Snider.
A celebration of Chick's life will be held
at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008, in the Zahoran Funeral
Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue. Committal service with military
honors will follow at Highland Cemetery. Family and friends may
call two hours prior to services in the funeral home. In lieu of
flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Center for
Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South
Bend, IN 46637.
