Sr. M. Eymardine Lengerich CSC
SOUTH BEND - Sister M. Eymardine (Estella
Rose Lengerich), CSC, 92, was born in Decatur, IN, to the
late August Lengerich and Ellen Rumschlag. She was the
sixth child in family of 14 brothers and sisters. Sister is
survived by her brothers, Robert and Raymond (Alice) Lengerich;
sisters, Sister M. Redempta, CSC, Saint Mary's Convent,
Amelia (Herman) Loshe, Germaine (Glen) Straub,
Dolores (Carl) Markey and Mary Ann (Don) Dale, all
of Indiana; a brother-in-law, John Brite; and cousins, Sister
M. Clare Anne, CSC, Saint Mary's, and Rev. Lawrence Heiman,
CPPS, Rensselaer, IN; and her good friend, Maria del Pilar Arroyo
of South Bend. Sister was predeceased by her brothers, Arthur,
Clarence, Aloysius, Julius and Richard, and by a sister, Lucille
Brite.
Sister Eymardine received her early
education at St. Joseph's School, Decatur. After entering the
Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Sister attended
Saint Mary's Academy and later on Saint Mary's College, Notre
Dame, IN, where she received a B.S. degree in education in 1962,
and 1968 her master's in education.
Sister entered the Congregation of the
Sisters of Holy Cross in 1930, made her first profession in 1933
and final profession in 1936. She began her teaching career in
the elementary schools of the congregation in the Midwest: Iowa,
Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. Sister was a favorite and
much-loved teacher in the elementary grades. In 1984 Sister
returned to Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN, where she was sacristan
in the Church of Loretto until 2002 when her health required a
less strenuous occupation. She then participated in volunteer
service to the community. Sister was active in the Ministry of
Prayer until her death.
Memorial contributions may be made to the
Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint
Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556. Wake services will be at 4 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan. 31, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint
Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m.
Thursday, Feb. 1, in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint
Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. The Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling
arrangements.
