Lucy L. Leliaert, 88, of Wakarusa formerly of W. 8th Street, Mishawaka passed away Thursday September 5 in Millers Merry Manor, Wakarusa. Lucy was born on July 2, 1914 in Mishawaka as the daughter of the late Julius and Sylvia (Hallaert) Stevens.
On July 2, 1938 as Lucy Stevens in St. Bavo's Catholic Church she married Maurice "Duzy" Leliaert who preceded her in death on July 10, 1981. Lucy is survived by a daughter, Elaine (Bob) Wisner of South Bend; a son Rev. Dr. Richard Leliaert of Dearborn, MI. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Mandy Grzeskowiak, Kristin (David) Vollbrecht and Leanne (Christopher) Murray; and two great-grandchildren, Conner Knox and Kathleen Murray.
Lucy was a Cook at Marian High School and St. Bavo's Convent for many years. She also worked for Wheel-A-Brator. She was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church and B-K Ladies Auxiliary. She attended the Antoinette Pope School in Chicago and Purdue Culinary extension courses.
Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Sunday September 8 in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. There will be a Rosary recited at 4:00 PM on Sunday, in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 Monday September 9 in St. Bavo's Catholic Church, Mishawaka with Rev. Richard Leliaert officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Contributions in memory of Lucy can be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN 46637-3437.
