Mildred S. Leinen, 77, beloved wife,
mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to be with the
angels at 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002. "Millie"
fell into a peaceful sleep at home surrounded by her husband,
children and grandchildren. She was born to Albert and Lillian Dydo,
who preceded her in death. Millie was born on Nov. 9, 1924, in
Chicago, Ill.
On June 14, 1947, she married her childhood
sweetheart, Arthur Leinen, her loving husband of 55 years. In
addition to her husband, Art, left to cherish her memory are her
sons, Arthur (Sue Laster) Leinen Jr. of Edwardsburg,
Mich., Robert (Sue Anderson) Leinen of Granger, Ind., and
her daughter, Mary Lou (Mitchell) Strock of South Bend,
Ind. Grandchildren include Kimberly (Chris) Raab of
Edwardsburg, Arthur "Chip" Leinen III of New York,
Patrick Leinen of Steubenville, Ohio, Robert Leinen II of South
Bend, James Leinen and Blair Anderson of Granger, Melissa and
Michael Strock of South Bend, and Vladimir Sorokin of
Dallas, Texas. Millie also has two great- grandchildren, Camryn
and Alexis Raab of Edwardsburg. She is also survived by a
brother, George (Bernice) Dydo of Elkhart, Ind. Millie lived in
South Bend for 40 years after moving here from Villa Park, Ill.
She had been employed by WNDU-TV, Thornton Electric, and the
Notre Dame Federal Credit Union before retiring to take care of
her grandchildren. She was an active member of Christ the King
parish and the Ladies Auxiliary of Knights of Columbus Council
#553. Millie had many special and loving friends and will always
be remembered by all those who knew her for her warmth,
generosity and her love of life. She was the founding member of
the "Mothball Crew," her closest and dearest friends.
She will be missed by all of her "angels" whose lives
she touched with her love.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m.
today, Aug. 14, in Christ the King Catholic Church, with Rev.
Thomas Jones, C.S.C., officiating. Burial will follow at Highland
Cemetery. Friends called from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, in
the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend,
where a parish Rosary was held at 7 p.m.
