SOUTH BEND - Leona Mae Lechtanski, 86, of Rock Hill, South
Carolina, formerly of 32nd Street, South Bend, IN, died Monday,
July 2, in her home in Chandler Place, Rock Hill. Leona Mae was a
resident of the Carolinas since May 2000, and had lived in South
Bend for 56 years. She was born June 25, 1921, in Chillicothe,
Missouri, to Arthur R. and Ruth Mae (Sipes) Garlick,
who preceded her in death.
On March 28, 1946, in Long Beach, CA, she
married Alex Lechtanski, who died November 7, 2000. She is
survived by a son, Frank Angotti of Parkville, MO; two
grandsons and three great-granddaughters, all in California; two
nieces, Janet Smith of Fort Mill, SC, and Pat Peters
of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Shirley Miller of Kansas City,
MO; and by a sister-in-law, Harriet Konopinski of
Charlotte (former resident of South Bend for 80 years). A special
thanks to Hospice of Rock Hill & Home Care caregivers for
their devotion in her last few months.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday,
July 6, in the Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum, 2257 N. Portage
Road, South Bend. Entombment will follow. There will be no
visitation. Leona Mae was a former member of St. Anthony de Padua
parish, South Bend. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer
Society or to Hospice. The HICKEY Funeral Homes, 3516 E.
Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, is in charge of arrangements.
