Sister Mary Helanus CSC, died at 9:45 a.m.
Thursday in the motherhouse of the Congregation, Saint Marys
Convent, after a prolonged illness. She was born Ellen Leahy in
Ireland in 1885 and received her education there. She came to the
United States in 1903; entered the Congregation of the Sisters of
the Holy Cross and received the habit in 1904; making her
profession of vows in 1909. Until illness forced her retirement,
she taught many years in LaPorte, Ind. and St. Joseph Academy in
South Bend; St. Patrick and St. Peter School in Washington DC;
and St. Paul in New York City.
A requiem high mass will be held at 7 a.m.
Saturday in the motherhouse. Friends may call in the infirmary
parlors.
