Edward J. Layman Sr., 78, Springfield Twp., Michigan
City, died at 2:47 p.m. yesterday (Jan. 15, 1985) at St. Anthony
Hospital. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Ott Funeral
Chapel. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. The Revs.
David Layson and Joseph Pawlowski will officiate. Friends may
call from 2 to 9 p.m. tomorrow and until the service Friday at
the funeral chapel. Mr. Layman was born Oct. 7, 1906, in LaPorte
County, the son of Ernest Layman and Anna Modjeska Layman, and
was a resident of this area all of his life. He was a foreman for
Pullman-Standard Co., retiring in 1971. On July 12, 1947, in
Michigan City, he married Aleen Westphal, who survives. Also
surviving are two daughters, Roszella Tylinski and Carol Kester,
both of Michigan City; three sons, Irvin Layman, LaPorte, and
David Layman and Edward Layman Jr., both of Michigan City; nine
grandchildren; a brother Clement Layman, Rolling Prairie; and a
sister, Cecelia Kinne, New Carlisle. A brother, Harold Layman,
and a sister, Catherine Mrozinski, are deceased. Mr. Layman was a
member of Springville Free Methodist Church, LaPorte County Farm
Bureau and Brotherhood of Railroad Carmen Local. He was a former
Springfield Twp. 4-H leader.
