Sister M. Arilda CSC died this
morning in the convent of the Provincial Hoiuse of the Sisters of
the Holy Cr1oss. She was born in Liverpool, England on April 14,
1883 as Julis Ann Lawler. She entered the Congregation of
the Sisters of the Holy Cross from Montreal in 1900 and made her
profession of vows in 1906. She spent most of her early religious
life in Baltimore, New York and Lancaster, Pa. Returning to the
midwest, she won recognition as an outstanding primary school
teacher, in Plymouth and Chicago. In 1931 she was assigned to St.
Patricks School in South Bend where she developed the
preschool program. She retired from teaching in 1953. Following a
year as a member of the Ave Maria staff at Notre Dame, she took
up residence in the Provincial House.
The requiem mass will beat 6 a.m. Monday in
St. Marys Chapel. Burial will follow in the community
cemetery. Friends may call tonight and Sunday in the convent
parlor.
