MISHAWAKA - Sarah C. Lawall, 92, of Mishawaka, passed away
Friday, May 23, 2008, in Cardinal Nursing & Rehabilitation
Center, South Bend. Sarah was born July 29, 1915, in Chicago,
Illinois; a daughter of the late George and Sara (Richards)
Campbell. She graduated from Calumet High School in 1933
and from Lewis Institute in 1937 with a degree in foods and
nutrition. While working in Chicago at the famous Jane Addams
Hull House Center she met her future husband, Wilbur Lawall.
The couple married on September 15, 1938 and
settled in Mishawaka a few years later. Sarah was a homemaker and
also assisted her husband in his life insurance business. She was
a member of First United Methodist Church where she sang in the
senior choir, belonged to the Fidelis class and the United
Methodist Women, serving as circle chairperson. She also worked
on many funeral dinners. Sarah was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girl
Leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She also enjoyed reading,
crocheting and travel. Sarah's surviving family includes a
daughter, Carol VanSteen of Mishawaka; a son, George (Sue
Ann) Lawall of Mishawaka; three grandchildren, Kelly Lawall, Brad
Lawall and Marguerite (Robert) Roye; and three
great-grandchildren, David, Christopher and Cheryl Roye. Sarah
was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur in 1991; a son,
Bruce who tragically drowned at the age of 18; and also a sister,
Ethel Maher.
Friends may spend time with Sarah's family
Tuesday from 4 - 8 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells
Funeral Home, 503 W. Third, Mishawaka. Services will be held 1:30
p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third,
Mishawaka, with Pastor Ronald Bowman officiating. Burial will
follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Memorials are
suggested to the First United Methodist Church Memorial
Scholarship Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home
and the church.
