Edward Francis Lane

Edward Francis Lane, 65, of South 31st Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away after suffering an apparent heart attack at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, in his residence. Mr. Lane was born May 13, 1937, in Mishawaka, Ind., and was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area.

Ed is survived by three daughters, Brenda L. Batchelor and Rose M. (Ron) Austin, both of Mishawaka, and Loretta (John) Kronewitter of Lakeville, Ind.; a son, Faron E. (Tammy) Lane of Mishawaka; 11 grandchildren whom he loved and cherished; four sisters, Delores J. Winterstorm and Loretta Adams, both of Mishawaka, and Darlene Woods and Donna Woods, both of Florence, Ala.; and by a brother, Ora W. Lane Sr. of Mishawaka. Mr. Lane was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra D. Lane; a son, Jeffery Lane; his parents; and by two brothers, Alvin Lane and Robert Lane.

Ed retired from the UniRoyal Corporation in Mishawaka after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Mishawaka, and the Moose Lodge #1262, Mishawaka. Ed was a good, caring man who always looked out for his family, and loved and cherished his children and grandchildren. He was an excellent father who was there to help. He loved arts and crafts, fishing and wood-working.

Friends will be received from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, in the Hanley & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home, located at West Ireland Road/Indiana 23, South Bend. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, in the funeral home, with Pastor Dan Scarberry officiating. Burial will be private at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka. The family request that all memorial contributions be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
