Alphonse A. Lanchsweerdt, 82, of
Birchwood Avenue, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an illness
at 9:30 a.m. on Monday morning, Jan. 24, in Saint Joseph's
Regional Medical Center, South Bend.
Mr. Lanchsweerdt was born on Jan. 4, 1918,
in South Bend, as the son of the late Hector and Marie (Beelaert)
Lanchsweerdt. He was also preceded in death by four brothers.
On May 25, 1940, in Our Lady of Hungary
Catholic Church, South Bend, he married the former Elizabeth
"Betty" Sayer. Mr. Lanchsweerdt is survived by
his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" of 59 years; a daughter,
Pat Kwiatkowski of South Bend; a son, Ron (Bernadine)
Lanchsweerdt of North Liberty, Ind.; three grandchildren, Tim Kwiatkowski,
Todd Kwiatkowski and Laurie (David) Villenueva; and by
three great-grandchildren, Brittany Villenueva, Michael
Villenueva and Heather Villenueva.
Mr. Lanchsweerdt was employed by South Bend
Lathe, retiring in 1976. He was a member of St. Patrick's
Catholic Church, South Bend, was a member of the Disabled
American Veterans #39, was a member of American Legion Post #284,
and was a member of the B-K Club, Mishawaka, Ind.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
on Thursday, Jan. 27, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. Eighth
Street, Mishawaka, where wake prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. A Mass
of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, in St.
Patrick's Catholic Church, South Bend, with Rev. Charles Lavely,
C.S.C., officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery,
South Bend. Contributions in memory of Mr. Lanchsweerdt may be
made to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana, 911 E. 86th
Street, Suite #100, Indianapolis, IN 46240.
